Zero Carbon Haddenham supporting Summerfest 2025 to be the most sustainable yet

Zero Carbon Haddenham was proud to support this year’s Haddenham Summerfest to be the most sustainable ever.

We helped achieve this in two ways: a hydration station and improved recycling efforts.

Hydration Station

Zero Carbon Haddenham was thrilled to support the Parish Council‘s sponsorship of a hydration station which proved hugely popular. Not only did it reduce plastic waste, but it also offered health benefits too, by enabling festival goers to stay hydrated whilst enjoying Summerfest!

Improved Recycling

This year, Zero Carbon Haddenham had an ambition to improve the level and quality of the recycling at the event. Waste contractors have previously told us that although outdoor festivals usually provide recycling bins, they are often so contaminated with general waste, that the contents cannot be processed and are instead sent to landfill or incineration.

With the help of Haddenham Scouts, we set up multiple recycling stations and carefully monitored what was placed in the bins – guaranteeing that everything collected was genuinely recyclable.

The Scouts worked tirelessly to collect materials from the stations and deliver them to a central hub. Thanks to their efforts, we collected a massive 10,000 litres of recyclable materials – more than twice as much as the previous year!

We would like to give a huge thank you to the Scouts and their leaders for doing a sterling job. We could not have done this without you!

To help engage the public, the Summerfest Committee also arranged for “fun facts” about recycling to be displayed around the site. Combined with a specially designed quiz for younger visitors, this helped build a sense of importance and collective commitment to sustainability.
